Dr. Alec CourosAI and the Implications for Assessment Reform
Dr. Alec Couros

This session will review the current context of AI and the implications this has for the need for assessment reform and other challenges. It will also cover the opportunities AI presents for automating workload (but not thinking).

Dr. Alec Couros is the Director of the Centre for Teaching and Learning at the University of Regina. He received his Bachelor and Master of Education degree from the University of Saskatchewan and then completed his PhD in Education at the University of Regina. He also holds the position of Professor of Educational Technology and Media in the Faculty of Education.

Dr. Couros is an internationally recognized leader, innovator, and speaker who has given hundreds of keynotes and workshops around the globe on diverse topics such as open education, networked learning, digital citizenship, and critical media literacy. He is also a passionate advocate of openness in education and demonstrates this commitment through his open-access publications, considerable digital presence and contributions, and highly successful MOOCs and open boundary courses. Dr. Couros has received numerous awards for innovation in teaching and learning.

Anna-Marie NielsonAnna-Marie Nielsen, Moderator

Anna-Marie Nielsen, OCT, B.Sc., B.Ed., M.Ed. is the Director of the Standards of Practice and Accreditation Department at the Ontario College of Teachers. Prior to this appointment in 2022, she was the Manager of the Accreditation Unit, where she guided staff, panellists, and an 8-person Accreditation Committee through accreditation reviews of more than fifty initial teacher education programs at 18 different faculties across Ontario.

In 2023, Anna-Marie was appointed as a member of the Accreditation Committee of the Physiotherapy Education Accreditation Canada (PEAC).

Since 2019, Anna-Marie has served on the Board of Directors of the Association of Accrediting Agencies of Canada. Currently, she holds the position of Vice-Chair of this organization, which advances excellence in accreditation standards and processes to foster the highest-quality professional education.

This session will discuss the main online exposures for Accrediting Agencies, cybersecurity risk management tips and cyber insurance protection to serve as your safety net.

Andrew SpencerAndrew Spencer

Andrew Spencer is an insurance broker and risk consultant with PROLINK Insurance. Andrew has been working with Accrediting Agencies since 2005 and is focused on helping his clients grow resilient organizations by helping them utilize a variety of risk management strategies, including securing the right insurance protection. When he is not wearing his insurance broker hat, Andrew loves spending time with his family, coaching youth sports, and cruising around the neighbourhood with his dog Cleo.

Mikel PearceMikel Pearce

Mikel Pearce spent 20 years as an insurance defence and coverage lawyer, and has nearly a decade of experience as a breach coach, acting on behalf of Lloyd’s syndicates as well as domestic and international insurers. Mikel is excited to leverage his experience as a breach coach to assist CyberClan in being ever more responsive to the needs of its various clients and stakeholders.
